Cal football makes big turnaround in the classroom

...fresh data released by the NCAA showed nearly three-quarters of Tedford's first recruiting class graduated — a 48 percent increase over the team's average from the previous decade.

Cal better do whatever it takes to keep Tedford around. Besides being a good coach on the field, it looks like he's actually doing a better job off the field. Most college football players will never play professionally so it's good to know that Tedford is graduating more and more of his players. There's still room for improvement but at least the trend is pointing in the right direction.

Fall Colours at Kiyomizudera (Karaoke Yoga)

Fall Colours at Kiyomizudera

Akane and I spent a few hours at Kiyomizudera, one of Kyoto's more spectacular temples. This is also the first temple I visited when we came to Kyoto in 2002 a few months before Riku was born.

Even though it was a Monday, the temple was very crowded. These were taken with my camera phone, so they're not great (and I even brought our "real" camera but forgot that I had ...).

From our friends in Kyoto. Man, that looks amazing.

Google Acquires Teracent To Apply Machine Smarts To Display Ads

A long time ago, in a galaxy far far away, I had a little start-up that was doing Netflix style delivery but for video games. Vikas Jha, currently CEO and founder of Teracent, was kind enough to join our board of advisors. He had no obligation to do so and was just interested in helping out a fellow entrepreneur. Fast forward to today and I'm ecstatic to hear that Google has bought Teracent. Hope you made out well Vikas!

Windows 7 sucks ... not as bad as Vista but still sucks

We just bought some new PCs at Best Buy for some incoming employees and I've been getting nice and cozy with Windows 7. It's not the train wreck that Vista was but it's far from good. I'll be "downgrading" these PCs to Windows XP pretty soon, which by the way, was a superb OS. Why can't Microsoft just make an OS with the good UI elements of XP minus all the underlying crap that made it unsecure and unstable? Or maybe Microsoft should just build a theme in Windows 7 for us XP fans...
