NBA Draft today!

NBA Draft is today. Interesting draft for the Warriors in that it's the first draft with the new brain trust completely in place - Lacob, West and Myers. With two first rounders and two second rounders, the Warriors have options. Their biggest need is SF and there are rumors that they are looking to trade their picks for a veteran SF. Definitely a good deal if they can swing a Rudy Gay or Andre Iguodala. The Wilson Chandler rumors are just crazy talk...

But let's say they do keep the picks, who to get? Michael Kidd-Gilchrist and Harrison Barnes are the top two SF's in this class and either one would make an immediate impact. But since they both look likely to be off the board at #7, the most likely option is a project big man in Drummond or there has been talk of trading down and getting Terrence Ross. Another possibility is Dion Waiters who Jerry West is very high on. Problem there is that you would most likely have to slide Klay Thompson over to SF which is not his natural position. Regardless of who they choose, this seems to be a deep draft so whoever they get won't be a totally dud. They may not a future all-star but they'll get a nice serviceable player. But then again, it could be another Anthony Randolph, as well.

Warriors need to lose these next two games...

Warriors are playing the Hornets now and are off to a hot start. THEY. NEED. TO. STOP.

With the Raptors playing the Nets in the last game of the season, one of them will have a 23-43 record. If the Warriors lose the next two games they will have an identical 23-43 record and be in a tie for the 7th worst record. This means they'll split the number of ping pong balls between them for the lottery but more importantly, they will be in a coin flip for the 7th or 8th spot should neither of them win the lottery. This gives the Warriors a shot at keeping their pick since it's only 1-7 protected. Otherwise, the pick goes to Utah for the disastrous trade for Marcus Williams. On that note, it's somewhat good news that Larry Riley is out as Warriors GM. Who knows if Bob Myers will do any better but it's good to see the last of the old guard out.

Warriors GM: ‘We are not shopping Ellis’ ... maybe

Just read the interview from Larry Riley in SI. I'm taking it with a grain of salt given that Riley is a lame duck GM who is just grooming his replacement Bob Myers. My guess is that a deal may still be in the works for Ellis but one of two things could be happening. Either the Warriors are trying to get more for Ellis or they are bracing the fans should a deal not materialize.

Ellis is a valuable trade commodity. He's young, scores in bunches and has a reasonable contract given his level of performance. He also plays no defense but in the right system, that might not matter as much. I'll believe Larry Riley when it's October and Ellis is still in a W's uniform.
