Another reason why Google Chrome OS is not that big

Follow up to my post yesterday about the Google Chrome OS. First off, read the excellent Fake Steve Jobs post about the new OS and we agree on most points - he just presents in a much funnier, insightful, and entertaining manner.

Second, the rumblings are that Eric Schmidt needs to leave Apple's board because of potential competitive issues. He currently recuses himself from board meetings that deal with the iPhone due to Google competing Android product. Will he now recuse himself when there is talk of Mac OS? So pretty much he's just there to discuss iPods? Seems like a waste of space in my opinion. However, my prediction is that Schmidt does not leave Apple's board. This leads me to believe that the Google Chrome OS is not really going to be an OS in the traditional sense of the word which means it doesn't really compete with Mac OS and for that matter, Windows. Let's remember, it's basically Linux with the Chrome browser bolted on top. The real point of the Chrome OS is to push more Chrome installations and not to beat Windows. Believe me, it takes more than just having a superior OS to take significant market share away from Microsoft. Look at Mac OS and the ahead of its time BeOS. Both were better operating systems yet couldn't even make a dent in Windows. I hardly doubt ANOTHER Linux variant is going to fair any better.

NBA Twitter fans ... get on Ric Bucher's Tweets

I usually don't follow "celebrity" Twitter users. Most of the time the Tweets they send out is pretty useless. I could care less what people are having for lunch or who they are hanging out with. However, Ric Bucher of ESPN has some damn useful NBA information. For instance, he just Tweet'd that Antonio McDyess is going to San Antonio, 3 years, $15 million. ESPN.com, Yahoo! Sports, etc don't even have this up yet. Plus I think he's a Bay Area guy since his back drop during ESPN segments is always San Francisco locations.

Warriors rumored sale

There's a rumor floating around the Interwebs that Chris Cohan, current owner of the Warriors, is looking to sell the franchise. The possible buyer? Larry Ellison of Oracle fame. This rumor definitely has legs as Oracle already has the naming rights to the Arena and Ellison has been wanting to buy a sports franchise for a while now. Whether he'll be a good owner or not is debatable but at this point, anything is better than Cohan who to me, ranks as the second worst NBA owner behind Donald Sterling.

The Council of the International Maritime Organization Award for Exceptional Bravery at Sea - Go Contis!

Mr. Maurice Conti and Mrs. Sophie Conti, United States citizens, nominated by New Zealand, for the rescue, in rough seas, of three crew members from the yacht Timella, which had grounded and then sunk, off a remote South Pacific coral reef. The Contis are non-professional sailors who, at the time of the incident, were sailing with their young family. They planned and executed the rescue in the middle of the night (12 13 October 2008), exposing themselves to considerable risk, in the absence of marine/aviation rescue assets.

My friend Maurice and his wife Sophie are being honored by the IMO for their brave rescue of the yacht Timella last fall. I originally posted about this a few months back. Check out the original post with the news video clip about the rescue.
